I am a librarian, writer, and editor living on the west coast of Florida. I plan to use my particular combination of experience to help you pursue your writing goals. Through my classes you will learn new writing skills, identify publication opportunities, and find ways to connect with the library community.

In 2015, I founded the award-winning literary magazine 805 Lit + Art at my library. I’ve worked with hundreds of writers to polish their short stories, essays, and poems for publication. I’m proud that three pieces published in 805 have been featured or short-listed in prestigious literary anthologies and that many of our writers have gone on to publish books with traditional publishers. In 2018, 805 won the Innovation Award from the Florida Library Association, and in 2020 I was selected as a “Mover & Shaker” by Library Journal for my work on 805.

After many librarians asked me how to start their own literary magazine, I wrote Libraries Publish: How to Start a Magazine, Small Press, Blog, and More, which was released by the academic press Libraries Unlimited, ABC-CLIO in January 2021. My short professional and creative writing has been published in five professional journals, Authors Publish Magazine, and by Akashic Books (the publisher of the satirical children’s book Go the F**k to Sleep).
