What is the purpose of Prolific Writers? #

Prolific Writers is an ongoing writers’ conference that’s always there for you. It’s a community where writers get answers to the questions they have wherever they are in the writing journey. Prolific Writers is a place where writers find the ongoing encouragement they need (from nice people like you, the Hosts) to reach their goals.

What are some of the ideal qualities of Prolific Writers Hosts? #

Prolific Writers is a platform designed to facilitate positive communication and relationships among writers and the subject matter experts who can help them realize their goals, however lofty they may seem. Prolific Writers is dedicated to providing a judgment-free culture in which members adopt the courage and conviction to choose to be prolific instead of perfect. The role of the Host is to provide the tools, mindset, support and connections writers need to succeed with their writing projects, one by one.

The most important qualities of a Host include compassion, open-mindedness, and a genuine interest in helping others succeed. Although it can be beneficial, a Host isn’t required to have any special training, education, best selling books, award-winning screenplays, or comedy headliner shows. A good sense of humor, however, can go a long way.

Both Hosts and Participants show up with loads of life experiences that have shaped their beliefs, fears and actions. A coach with a positive outlook who shows up in the present moment to listen and ask the right questions is what writers need. We’re looking for Hosts who have a knack for bringing out the best in people, helping them to answer to their own questions and charter writing projects that are in harmony with their hearts’ desires. Participants who feel positive vibes within the community will continue to come back for more and will encourage their friends to show up as well.

What is the typical length of time for EVENTS? #

EVENTS typically range from 30 to 90 minutes. You have the freedom, however, to schedule your events for any length of time. You can, for example, run a 12-hour writing marathon with check-ins at the top of each hour. The limitation of the length of the event is driven mainly by the attention span of the participants.

What video conferencing platform should I use to host EVENTS? #

In order to maintain consistency for participants, we recommend that you use Zoom video conferencing to host your events. It offers all sorts of features for professional hosting. You are, however, free to use other platforms such as WebEx, Skype, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, or any other. When listing your events, be sure to mention the video conferencing platform you’re using.

Although we are mainly dedicated to hosting virtual events, the ticketing system allows you to sell tickets for live events as well.

What are some of the advantages of hosting EVENTS with Prolific Writers? #

As a host with Prolific Writers Life, you are free to set your own schedule and pricing for every event you offer. We provide a feature-rich shopping cart, and we help promote your events. In addition to displaying your events and products in your store, they also appear on the high-traffic EVENTS and PRODUCTS pages. This allows you to reap the benefits of the marketing that fellow hosts are doing for their events.

How does Prolific Writers Life market EVENTS and PRODUCTS offered by Hosts? #

Every Wednesday Hosts are invited to participate in the Prolific Writers Cafe event. This is an opportunity for you to talk about your expertise and discuss what events you’ve posted in the upcoming month. 

Every Monday Hosts are invited to participate in the Marketing Monday event. It’s helpful to have your events planned out 30-90 days in advance. Not only does this give participants time to plan for events, it also gives us plenty of time to help promote them.

But the best marketing takes place through the expansive reach of all the community together.  You get the benefit of the combined traffic coming to the site as other Hosts promote their events. This provides organic and exponential growth for everyone in the community. We share Best Practices for Promoting Your Store so that every Host has the best chance of success. 

Can I record my EVENTS? #

You are free to record your EVENTS as long as you let everyone on the call know that you’re recording and let them know how you intend to use it. You can save your recording and sell it as a digital download in your Prolific Writers Life store, for example. Let people know in the event description that you intend to record the event and announce it at the beginning of the meeting as well. Some people might be more inclined to participate, while others might choose not to participate in events that are being recorded.

Keep in mind that people are more likely to feel comfortable and openly express themselves if the call is not being recorded. If you want to build relationships with participants, you’re probably better off not recording.

When is the best time to schedule EVENTS? #

You are free to schedule events at any time of day or night. Prolific Writers Life PRODUCTS and EVENTS are open 24/7. Choose a time that works best for you, when you’re most alert and able to give your full attention to participants.

People can join in from any time zone around the world. If you want to reach people in a particular target market or location, it makes sense to take into consideration when they’re most likely to be available. Although all the current hosts are scattered throughout the US, we are taking steps to reach writers of all genres around the world.

How much can I earn as a HOST with Prolific Writers? #

There is no cap on how much you can earn. Setting up a host store is only $4.99/month and you keep 80% commission on your sales. You are free to host as many EVENTS as you want. And you’re free to list an unlimited number of items in the PRODUCTS. How much you earn is directly related to the number of events and shop items you list, as well as how much effort you put into promoting them. You’ll have the added benefit of promotion from the entire Prolific Writers Life community.

How much should I charge for EVENTS? #

You are free to set your own prices. In addition, you can set targets on how many people you want to attend your EVENTS. This can be an important factor in determining how much you charge. Check out the EVENTS and PRODUCTS pages to get an idea of what other Hosts are charging.

What’s most important is that both you and your participants feel comfortable with the the pricing. Our goal here at Prolific Writers is to offer affordable opportunities that help writers build relationships and have fun in pursuit of their goals. If all of your events are free, it could end up sending the wrong message that you don’t have much to offer in terms of value. Yes, you can offer free events, but we recommend that you experiment with a variety of price points so that both you and the participants feel good about the value.

How many participants can I expect at EVENTS? #

This varies greatly depending on the topic as well as how much effort you put into marketing your event. The best way to increase the number of participants in your EVENTS is to host an assortment of events at various price points and refer to our Best Practices for Promoting Your Store for marketing tips. 

How can I get more participants at EVENTS?  #

Ask participants for input and feedback at the end of each event to be sure that you’ve met their expectations. As participants bring up their needs, refer them to other workshops offered by you or fellow hosts. Attend Marketing Monday or Prolific Writers Cafe weekly events and let other Hosts know what you’re offering so they can refer people to your EVENTS and PRODUCTS. 

What can I sell in my Store? #

In the PRODUCTS, you can list digital downloads in the form of books, audiobooks, video recordings and more. You can also sell subscriptions.

Can I BLOG for Prolific Writers? #

Yes. If you are a registered Host with Prolific Writers, you can publish articles on our BLOG. Although you’re welcome to promote your events through your blog posts, we’re mainly looking for evergreen content with links back to your Prolific Writers Life Store.

How can I sign up as a HOST? #
