How to Create a New Virtual Event

Creating a Virtual Event #

Prolific Writers Life (prolificwriters.life/ — which we’ll refer to in shorthand as PWL) is a “Virtual Workspace” for writers, where you can connect: “collaborate with authors, editors, writers and experts who can give you the guidance, motivation and support you need to achieve your writing goals;” learn: “Participate in virtual events hosted by experts who are dedicated to helping you reach your writing goals;” and earn: “Apply to be an Expert and set up your store; host events when you want; enjoy the benefits of doing what you love while having the freedom to set your own schedule and prices; and profit by sharing your know-how and experience; the more writers you help, the more you earn.” There are many options for the kinds of “products” you can create and offer here (downloadable documents, physical products, virtual online events), but the primary product type is virtual online events. This tutorial walks you through the step-by-step process of creating and scheduling an online event. This is Step Two of being an Expert at PWL; Step One is applying to be an Expert and setting up your “storefront,” which is covered in the tutorial How to Apply to be an Expert and setup a Store at ProlificWriters.Life. Now that you have your PWL store set up, it’s time to create your first product.

1. Navigate to the Expert Dashboard #

2. Select Add Product #

3. Give your product a name #

Please use the format (YMMDD <Title> (MMM DD, HH (am/pm) PT, HH (am/pm) ET) (eg. 40517 for Event Date on May 17 at HH PT

4. Type your product description #

This can be a long description as it will be lower on the page anyway.

NOTE: You can move these boxes up and down.

5. Type your product short description #

NOTE: Keep this relatively short so that the product description does not scroll off the screen.

6. Check Virtual and put in your price #

7. Click on Event Settings #

8. Enter Event Settings #

  • IS THIS PRODUCT AN EVENT: Choose the dropdown to select ‘Yes’.
  • Start date: Enter the start date of the event
  • Start time: Enter the start time of the event
  • End time: Enter the end time of the event
  • Time zone: Enter the time zone of the event in your time zone
  • Venue: Only type Zoom meeting (Not the zoom link)
  • Phone number: Optional - displayed publicly on the event details tab. Optional – displayed publicly on the event details tab. Optional Enter how you want participants to contact you.
  • Email address: Optional - displayed publicly on the event details tab. Optional – displayed publicly on the event details tab. Optional Enter how you want participants to contact you.
  • Thank-you page text: For events, include event date, time, Zoom link, and your contact information. For products, include download link and your contact information. NOTE: PWL members prefer a complete link to your zoom meeting. Providing a separate meeting ID and passcode can be confusing to some of our members
  • Event details tab text: (Do not include the Zoom link here. This field is visible to the public prior to purchasing a ticket.) (Do not include the Zoom link here. This field is visible to the public prior to purchasing a ticket.) Enter any addition event details you would like to provide for prospective customers about your event.
  • If instructed by Lorraine, set the calendar background color and calendar text color.

9. Navigate to the Ticket Settings Tab #

10. Select the appropriate category. #

  • Product categories: IMPORTANT! Be sure to select EVENT so that your event shows up on the Events page and the calendar.
  • Product image: This is the image that will show up on the Events page.
  • Product gallery: You can add additional images that will show on the product page.

11. Finally click publish and view your event on the events page. #
