Compass Writers • Speakers

Thank you for your interest in being a speaker at Compass Writers. Here’s everything you need to know to be prepared to speak. Hopefully, this FAQ format will answer all your questions.

What do you need to provide for your announcement?

We need three things for your announcement: 1) a square hi-res photo, 2) a brief description of the message you plan to share with an audience of writers—150 words or less, and 3) a short introduction we can read to introduce you—100 words or less written in third person. We can also include links to your website, books, or LinkedIn page, for example.

Who will introduce me to the audience?

An officer or member of Compass Writers will introduce you to the audience. Please provide us with an introduction we can read to introduce you—100 words or less written in third person. Give the audience an idea of your background, especially as it relates to your professional experience and your experience as a writer.

How much time should I plan for this speaking engagement?

Please plan to arrive at 6 pm and stay through to the end of our event at 8:30 pm. Compass Writers officially starts at 6:30 pm, but we want to make sure that you have time to set up not only to speak, but also to prepare a table for Q&A and book signing with individuals at the end of the event. You will have a total of 30 minutes on the stage. We recommend that you speak for 20 minutes and allow 10 minutes for Q&A with the audience. After you speak, we break out into small groups for feedback on writing. We strongly prefer that you participate in this feedback session not only to encourage our members, but also to bring your own writing sample for feedback.

What should I bring with me the night I speak?

Bring any promotional materials you have for your book or business. This might include your book(s), T-shirts, bookmarks, flyers, and, of course, business cards. If you’re an author, but don’t have hard copies of your book to sell, please bring business cards or flyers with a link to where people can purchase your eBook and/or audiobook. We raffle door prizes at each meeting. You’re welcome to provide a copy of your book for the raffle, but it’s certainly not required.

Where does Compass Writers meet?

Compass Writers meets at Compass Christian Church in Casa Grande. The address is 1510 N Casa Grande Ave. We meet every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month from 6:30-8:30 pm.
